The Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) announced today the results of the twenty-sixth quarterly auction of CO2 allowances under the regulatory program.
All of the allowances on offer, which include CO2 allowances from allocation year 2014 and earlier, were sold at the auction held on December 03, 2014. The clearing price was $5.21, which is a new record high for a RGGI auction.
The December auction offered more than 18 million allowances from participating RGGI states. Bidding interest was strong with bids exceeding supply by two and a half times -- the same ratio as the last auction. Participation in the auction by compliance entities was strong again this auction, with these entities purchasing 88% of allowances on offer.
